Mom's basic White Bread

5 1/2- 6 Cups flour
2 pkgs active dry yeast
3 tbsp sugar
2 tsp salt
2 Cups milk
1/4 C butter or oil

In lg mixing bowl, combine 2 C flour, dry yeast, sugar and salt. In saucepan heat milk and butter until milk is very warm (120-130 degrees). Add to flour mixture; beat until smooth. Stir in the resto of the flour little by little and knead until elastic (8-10 mins). Place in greased bowl, tuning to grease top. Cover, and let rise in warm place until doubled in size. (1-1 1/2 hours) Punch down dough. Form into loaves or rolls and double in size rising again. Bake at 375 until golden brown.
